White Rock has a limited number of work-trade positions available to help us in the areas of registration/parking, kitchen food prep & serving, setup & tear down, kids camp, and general assistance.
If you are accepted for one of these positions, you will receive your admission to White Rock free of charge plus meals before and after the gathering in exchange for approximately 18-20 hours of work. Your work will be integrated with the work of the White Rock team and you will have use of the team tent and facilities.
You will be expected to arrive at the site in advance (how early depends on your position) and stay to help clean up. You will also be asked to attend a meeting before the gathering begins and another to debrief afterwards.
If you would like to be considered for one of these positions, please fill out the short application and submit it before February 12th. We will let you know if you are selected by the end of February. If you are not chosen for a position, you will still have the option to buy a ticket to the gathering even if ticket sales have sold out to the public.
The positions and their descriptions are listed below, along with the application form
Setup & Tear-down
Setup and tear down requires you to arrive by May 3rd and stay until May 13th. This is a very physical job involving moving things around, setting up tents, yurts and other structures, and working in whatever weather nature provides. You will be working closely with a dedicated team of people before and after the event, but your time will be your own during the gathering.
Kitchen support will require you to work approximately 3 hours daily in the afternoon throughout the event and you will need to prioritize this over classes and so on. You will be assisting with food prep, serving, tending to water boiling (more of a job than you might think), setting up and maintaining dishwashing stations and other tasks to keep both the main kitchen and the team kitchen functioning.
Registration & Parking
Registration and parking will require you to work mostly at the beginning of the event including the first day of the gathering plus small bits of time during the week (when we have groups coming). This position involves a lot of interaction with the attendees and instructors helping them arrive and get settled. There may be a fair amount of walking involved and random unexpected tasks so flexibility is a valuable quality.
This position involves a LOT of walking, adapting to situations and just generally being available. You will have things to attend to at various times throughout the event, but most of your work hours will be at the beginning. It is helpful to be comfortable working alone, with a team, and interacting with the public as well.
Thank you for your interest, we look forward to meeting you and having you join us.
